APEC BEST AWARD

APEC BUSINESS EFFICIENCY AND SUCCESS TARGET (BEST) AWARD Chile, October 2, 2019

Background

MSMEs play a major role in the economic development of member economies, both internally and in the context of global supply chains, accounting over 97 per cent of all businesses and employing over half of the APEC economies workforce. Yet, women remain Munderre presented in MSMEs due to a lack of access to capital markets and capacity building. 2017 APEC Study found that there are 600 million economically active women (40% of the total APEC workforce) in APEC economies, nevertheless women-owned APEC MSMEs amount to an average of only 38% of the total number.
This opens a window of opportunity for developing women entrepreneurs’ potential which is considered the main priority of the BEST Award. Participation in the international Business Efficiency and Success Target Award will provide participants with a chance to internationalize their businesses, attract foreign partners and potential investors across APEC economies, as well as encourage more women to found SMEs and enable job creation in different industries, thus, bolstering economic growth by applying successful business models.

BUSINESS EFFICIENCY AND SUCCESS TARGET AWARD - is initiated by the Russian
Federation already for the fourth time.

The APEC BEST AWARDs were successfully held:

- in Lima, Peru, June 2016 (gathered around 100 participants);
- in Hue, Viet Nam, September 2017 (around 150 participants);
- in Port-Moresby, PNG, September 2018 (around 200 participants).

Business-women with disabilities were invited to APEC BEST AWARD 2018 for participation that was especially important for Papua New Guinea where the involvement of disabled people to the social life is the priority for the economy. In 2019 disabled women will be similarly welcome to present their success stories.

Based on its outcomes, Overview of APEC SMEs Internationalization Models and Practices and Catalogues of the best entrepreneurial practices were elaborated and published on the APEC official website and local websites of member-economies and information about the event was given by the leading international media.

Objectives The key objectives of the project are to identify and spread “success stories” of women MSME owners & MSME top managers and the key instruments they applied when developing businesses across APEC economies as well as, more broadly, to offer vital support to female entrepreneurs, encouraging more women to establish their own businesses and helping them gain control over their economic well-being.
The APEC BEST AWARD aims at attracting the interest of mass media, business and public community to the issues of the development of women’s entrepreneurship across the APEC economies

Furthermore, considering the scale of the event, BEST Award will serve as a springboard for many businesswomen to facilitate recognition from the business community, international partners and foreign investors.

The Contest also contributes to building a network among women-owned MSMEs, consultants, mentors and investors across the APEC region.

Beneficiaries of this project are:

  • Women-entrepreneurs;

  • Women – top-managers;

  • Micro-, small and medium enterprises;

  • Public sector;

  • Both APEC economies and international community.

The project will prove to be of interest for invited mentors and jury members as it will serve as a platform for broadening contacts with the business community of APEC economies.
